Widget Mac Tests

Dear OS X users:

Good news and bad news. I set up Leopard the other day in order to test a Mac version of the application. The good news is that it’s easy to create a dashboard widget. The bad news is that as a dashboard widget it appears to stop running when it’s in the background and reinitialize when in the foreground. This causes the app to reconnect every time I view the dashboard. I can probably fix that, but I still think it wont send any update alerts while dashboard is not in the foreground, eliminating the alert feature.

I’m going to look into creating both an Adobe AIR version and OS X app for it to see which works the best. If I run into snags I’ll at least try to make some adjustments so that it runs better as a dashboard widget; though probably without the auto-updating and alerts.

I just released a game for AddictingGames yesterday, so I’ve been on a tight release schedule lately; but I have not forgotten you all.

    Awesome!

Have you tried using it in combination with this widget?: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/dashit.html

It basically keeps any selected widget from the dashboard active on the desktop without the rest of the dashboard, as far as i can tell.

Also, how are you doing the notifications? Utilizing Growl would be super awesome!

    Sorry forgot the Growl link:

Other widgets that use Growl notifications are the only widgets I’ve seen that actually notify you of something when the dashboard isn’t in the foreground. This is an example of a widget that uses Growl:

I wish I could be more specific on how they did it, but at least I don’t think all hope is lost for the widget :P

DOOD. I NEED THIS. WORK FASTER :P For real though, I freaked out in joy the first time you showed me this months ago. I needs it for my pretty pretty Mac. Also, yeah Growl rocks.

Hey man, this widget is cool buddy..but apparently i’m having problems with it in my Windows XP (either alpha or updates 0.31), they seem to won’t login (saying authorization failed..). I ended up going to my mac just to know that it’s not available yet.. DUDE work it on for mac users fast XD

  6. ArcaneCoder Says:

DiditzZz, it should work fine on XP, unless you have some strange security settings. Try logging in to Kongregate directly in Internet Explorer. That’s basically what it’s trying to do.

@AC: Ya, ya, I’m trying. I’d being going faster if real jobs didn’t get in the way :P

I just want to sound my support for the Mac version of this becoming fully functional. It seems like a really nice program!

Growl support, as previously mentioned, would be awesome.
